What Conditions May Benefit from Therapeutic Massage?
An Increasing number of research studies show massage reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes tight muscles, improves range of motion and increases endorphins (enhancing medical treatment). Although therapeutic massage does not increase muscle strength, it can stimulate weak, inactive muscles and thus, partially compensate for the lack of exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It also can lead to a more complete recovery from exercise or injury. Lets not forget, it just plane feels GOOD!
People with the following conditions have reported that therapeutic massage has lessened or relieved many of their symptoms.
* Arthritis * Asthma * Carpal Tunnel Syndrome * Chronic and Acute pain * Circulatory Problems * Gastrointestinal Disorders (including spastic colon and constipation) * Headaches * Migraines * Immune Function Disorders * Insomnia * Myofascial Pain * Premature Infants * Reduced Range Of Motion * Sports Injuries * Stress * TMJ Disorder * Sinus Pressure * Discomfort in Expecting Mothers.
Some Contraindications (not advised) include:
* Certain Forms Of Cancer * Phlebitis * Some Cardiac Problems * Some Skin Disorders * infectious diseases.

The Ultimate Stress Reliever!
Important points to remember!
Therapeutic Massage is an excellent way to put the relaxing, emotionally gratifying power of touch back into our lives.
During a massage session, the body is purified of toxic waste that gets stored up in our muscles and tissues. Circulation is improved and energy blocks are cleared. Healing through massage is really about going on a journey within and attaining balance between the body, mind, and soul. People have many responses to a therapeutic massage session. Some fall into a deep state of relaxation and altered consciousness and drift off to sleep once some of the tension is released. Others come in feeling sluggish, depressed, fatigued, and leave feeling renewed and rejuvenated. Take a minute and think about the last time you were really cared for through touch.
SOME IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER AFTER YOUR MASSAGE
There are many toxins that get stored in the muscle tissue as a result of exercise, diet, environment and stress that the body encounters on a daily basis. Many of these toxins may be released into the bloodstream as a result of having the muscle tissue massages, It is possible that you may have some feeling of nausea because of this a few hours later. Therefore, it is most important to increase your water intake for the next 24-72 hours to help flush your system clean. I recommend a gallon after a massage session in a 24 hour period. The average daily amount is half your body weight in ounces.
Also. a good hot epsom salt bath with help with soreness ans muscle cramps the body may experience after a massage.
You may experience some soreness in the areas that were manipulated. Somewhat similar to the feeling you get after a strenuous workout. Don't be alarmed by this. It is usually a result of the lactic acid being worked out of the muscles. The soreness will usually subside within a day or two. Don't forget to drink your water!!!!!
The tension in your muscles did not get there over night, so often you may feel good right after the massage and become frustrated because you did not stay that way. There are many life patterns that we follow that can disrupt even the most effective massage or body work. Massage therapy can be very influential in bringing relief from injuries and chronic muscle aches and pains, yet it is most effective if you are able to keep up with it on a regular basis. Similar to taking good care of your car. If you want your car to not run sluggish and fail you, you must make an effort to change the oil and give it a tune up periodically. The same is true for you body!
Modern Day demands put a great deal of stress on our Minds, Bodies, and Souls. If we want them to last, we MUST take care of them!!!

Massage Technique
Terminology
Swedish -
kneading and squeezingLong sliding, gliding strokes, called efflaurage,
called petrissage and cross fiber friction which causes the layers of tissue to rub against each other which all result in increased blood flow, working the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. This is the most popular relaxing type of massage
Deep Tissue - Releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow deliberate strokes of deep finger and elbow pressure on the contracted areas, called adhesions (knots), releasing the tension in the deeper layers of muscles which lie underneath the superficial layers of muscles.
Myofascial Release - is a form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia / connective tissue.
Sports - a faster, moving massage therapy focusing on increasing blood flow to the over used or injured muscles revelent to a particular sport with stretching.
Trigger Point / Neuromuscular Therapy - applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points" (which are painful irritated areas in the muscles) to help break cycles of spasm and pain which may trigger to other parts of the muscle via the nervous system.
Cranial Sacral - a technique for finding and correcting cerebral and spinal imbalances or blockages that may cause sensory, motor or intellectual dysfunctions by opening up the flow of cerebral spinal fluid between the skull and sacrum via spinal cord.
Reflexology - a trigger point therapy based around a system of acupressure points in the hands and feet thought to correspond to all areas of the body.
Shiatsu / Acupressure - an eastern medical based system that uses finger pressure which treat special points along the Acupuncture "Meridians" (invisible channels of energy flow in the body).
